Abstract

This study was used for grade IX MTS Al Faqih Berbek in the academic year 2021/2022, because at this time many students were because difficulty in speaking skills, therefore students' speaking need to be improved. English lessons which they think are very difficult, and the methods used in learning may be less attractive to students. Therefore, the researcher took focuses on students' speaking skills by adopting a method that attracts students' enthusiasm. Because by using Small Group Discussion students’ can express their opinions or their questions to their classmates through the Small Group Discussion, can increase students’ self- confidence. The objectif of the research are (1) to find out the students‟ writing descriptive text before being taught by Small Group Discussion (2) to find out the students‟ Speaking skill on oral presentation after being taught by using Small Group Discussion, and (3) to find out the effectiveness of Small Group Discussion in teaching speaking skill on oral presentation at nine grade students of MTS Alfaqih Berbek Nganjuk in the academic year of 2021/2022. The research methodology is experimental with one group pre-test and post- test. The research was done in MTS Alfaqih Berbek Nganjuk in the academic year of 2021/2022. by using population of the whole class IX students. the sample used by the writer is the IX class that consists of 28 students as the experimental class. Sampling using simple random sampling technique. The data analysis technique used to analyze the data in this study was the statistical t-test data analysis. The technique of sampling is using purposive sampling. The collecting data in this research by using test. The technique of analysis data used to analyze the data in this research is statistical analysis data t-test. Based on the results of the test, students show the pre-test average score 74 and post-test 77. So that thereis effectiveness So it means that there was significant effect of small group discussion toward students‟ spaking skill; (a) speaking anxiety of experimental class showed the significant value (0.00 < 1.00), it means that there was significant effect of small group discussion toward students‟ spaking anxiety; (b) there was no different effect between speaking skill and speaking anxiety, the use of small group discussion were effective on students‟ speaking skill and speaking anxiety."there are students before and after learning using the Small Group Discussion at the nine grade students of MTS Al-Faqih Berbek in the academic year of 2021/2022.
