Abstract

The objectives of the research is to found out the effectiveness of four square writing method in increasing student’s writing skill in recount text at the eighth grade of SMPN 3 Bagor in the academic year of 2018/2019. The methodology of the research was pre-experimental design ( one group pre test – post test group design). The population of the research, moreover, was 71 students from the total of three classes. The sample was obtained by using purposive sampling technique resulting in one class with 24 students class. The instrument used in this research was an assignment in the form of test. The technique used in collecting data was quantitative data with t-test. The research, furthermore, was conducted by following the procedure: giving pre-test and post-test. The data of the tests were then calculated by using t-test. It could be seen from the result of calculation that the students’ scores of post-test is higher than of pre-test. The mean score of post-test was 75,5. Meanwhile, the mean score of pre-test was 68,16. Furthermore, based on the statistical calculation with the significant level of 5% and It means that t0 15,45 is higher than t (1-α) that was 2,06866. Therefore, it proved the alternative hypothesis, which state that there was significant different between the students’ score in writing after using four square writing method and before using four square writing method at the eighth grade of SMP N 3 Bagor in the academic year of 2018/2019.
