Abstract

The purpose of this research is (1) To know the students’ vocabulary mastery before they are taught by using word square, (2) To know the students’ vocabulary mastery after they are taught by using word square (3) To know whether there are differences achievement the students’ vocabulary mastery before and after being taught using word square at the seventh grade students of MTs Darunnajah Sawahan in the academic year of 2018/2019. The method of this research is experimental research design with one group pre-test and post-test. The research was done in Mts Darunnajah Sawahan in the academic year of 2018/2019 by using the population whole class VII is 62 students, while the sample is used by the researcher is the class VII-A with the sum of the students are 21 students. The technique of sampling is using convenience sampling. The collecting data used test. The technique of analysis data that is used to analyze the data in this research is statistical analysis data t-test. Based on the result of the test, students show the pre-test average score is 52,14, median is 55 and the mode is 55. It can be conclude that students’ vocabulary mastery is Not Good and the mean of post test is 70,48, median 75 and the mode 80. It can be conclude that students’ vocabulary mastery is Good. Based on the data analysis of t-test it could be seen that tcount is 11,24 and ttable on the significant level of 5% is 2,08596. It means that tcount > ttable. So, the hypothesis of this research is Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected that is “ There is different between teaching vocabulary using word square and teaching vocabulary without using word square in terms of to develop students’ vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade of MTs Darunnajah Sawahan in the academic year of 2018/2019”. There is any significant differences between the achievement students’ vocabulary mastery before and after being taught using word square at the seventh grade students of MTs Darunnajah Sawahan in the academic year of 2018/2019. So, teaching vocabulary using word square is effective to develop students’ vocabulary mastery for the seventh grade students of MTs Darunnajah Sawahan in the academic year of 2018/2019.
