Abstract

In teaching and learning process, most of students face many problem in reading comprehension especially understanding the meaning of a text as a whole. In order to achive a better reading comprehension including the modern technology as a enhancement to the classroom teaching. Kahoot! has positive impact to educational trends including gamifaction and students engagement. The objective of this research is to measure the effectiveness of using Kahoot! in teaching reading comprehension in analytical exposition text of eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Mojokerto academic year 2020/2021. The researcher conducted a quantitative research through quasi experimental design. The researcher took 2 classes to conducted this research XI – IPA 6 as the experimental class and XI – IPA 7 as the control class. This research was focus on reading comprehension in analytical exposition text with macro skills in reading by Brown. The researcher analyzed the data of the post–test by calculating t–test. The result showed that there is a different mean score between the experimental group and the control group. The mean score of experimental group is higher than the control group. 85,35 for the experimental group while 77,26 for the control group. The findings of t – test is 6,47 with the df 60 while the t – table was 1,67 in significance of 5% (0,05). It means that the t – test is higher than the t – table. It proves that the result is significant and real between compared mean score. The researcher concluded that using Kahoot! to teach reading comprehension in exposition text is successful applied at eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 1 Mojokerto academic year 2020/2021.
