Abstract

Speaking is one of four language skills which is very important because it is used to deliver the students’ feeling and idea. To enhance students’ speaking, teachers should facilitate students to always practice their speaking in the class. Based on the researcher’s observation, it was found that students faced problems on their speaking. To cope with students’ speaking difficulties, this research attempts to explore the effectiveness of Pair-taping technique the students’ speaking skill at SMA N 1Kota Mojokerto. The use of Pair-taping technique is interesting to be studied because research in this area was still scarce conducted at High School. It is also important to study whether Pair- taping technique could be the effective teaching technique to enhance students’ speaking skill. In investigating the effectiveness of using Pair-taping skill in Quasi experimental conditions, the researcher used two group posttest design as a research method. The participants consisted of 60 students of SMA N 1 Kota Mojokerto which were given four sets of treatment using Pair-taping technique in a month. To see theeffectiveness, the speaking test scores after the treatment were compared. The result showed that there was a significant difference which could be seen from the mean score of posttest. The mean score of experimental class was 81 and the mean score of control was 73,8. In addition, the result of the hypothesis testing revealed that Sig. (2-tailed) was 0,000. It indicated that this research was significant because the Sig. (2-tailed) was lower than 0,005 (Sig < 0, 05). In addition, the t-value of the t-test was higher than the value of t-table (t0 6,645 > tt 1,699). Thus, the decision was to accept the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) and to reject the Null Hypothesis (H0). It could be inferred that Pair-taping technique was an effective teaching technique to teach speaking skill in tenth- grade of SMA N 1 Kota Mojokerto. It could be seen by the significant difference score before and after the treatment in the posttest. This research is surely asserted that the using of Pair-taping technique in teaching speaking could effectiveness students’ speaking skill, especially in students’ fluency. In conclusion, this research showed that the treatments were successfully affected on students’ speaking skill although some students could not get full of the treatments. Hence, students’ speaking skill effectiveness after the treatment for SMA N 1 Kota Mojokerto students especially on students’ fluency.
