Abstract

The learning process in schools is the best public policy tool as an effort to increase knowledge and skills. In addition, many students think that school is a very fun activity, they can interact with each other. But now school activities have stopped abruptly due to pandemic disturbances. To teach writing can be so hard in the pandemic situation with the help of social media for the Whatsapp group to teaching writing is expected to reach the goal where the students and the teachers are required to be creative and innovative in implementing learning even in the pandemic situation, with the use of social media (whatsapp group) it is hoped that it can increase students' interest in writing the teaching material being studied. The researcher conducted pre – experimental research design and test for the research instrument. The objective of the research is to measure the effectiveness of using "The Effectiveness Of Using Whatsapp Group Discussion To Teach Writing Competence In Descriptive Text In Tenth Grade At SMK Islam Baburrohmah Mojosari In Academic Year Of 2020/2021”.WhatsApp group in improving descriptive text writing skills and the level of student satisfaction can be achieved through the application of the concept of using WhatsApp group in the learning process of writing descriptive texts in class X TSM SMK Islam Baburrohmah Mojosari in academic year of 2020/2021. The result of the pre – test from 18 students was 1335 while the post – test was 1460. Having analyzed the data of pre – test and post – test by using t – test formula, the result shows that the coefficient is 6,94. It means that there is significance increase in teaching writing by using Whatsapp group discussion. The researcher used the degree of significance of 5% in the table of significance, it can be seen the df 17 is 1.740. If compared with each value of the degrees of significance, the result is 16,94 > 1,740. The researcher concluded that using Whatsapp group discussion was effective to teach writing competence in descriptive text in tenth grade at SMK Islam Baburrohmah Mojosari In Academic Year Of 2020/2021.
