Abstract

The objectives of the research are (1) To find out the achievement of students’ vocabulary skill before using Scrabble Game as a technique in teaching and learning process. (2) To find out the achievement of students’ vocabulary skill after using Scrabble game as a technique in teaching and learning process. (3) To analyze the significant difference before and after being taught using Scrabble Game to improve students’ vocabulary skill in teaching and learning process at XI Social 1 of SMAN 2 Nganjuk in the academic year 2021/2022. Vocabulary is the one of the English components which has to be mastered and acquired by students in learning a new language. In this study, researcher used Scrabble Game for teaching vocabulary to the XI Social 1 students of SMAN 2 Nganjuk. Scrabble Game is the word related game that players have to form a vocabulary from available letters. This method consists of lettering, spelling, and meaning. This method allows students to learn while playing. So, In addition to improving students' vocabulary, scrabble games can also increase students' interest in learning English, especially vocabulary. This research is Quasi-Experimental Research with one group pre-test post-test. The research was done in SMAN 2Nganjuk in the academic year of 2021/2022, by using the population whole class XI with the total 311 students, the sample used by the researcher is the class XI Social 1 that consists of 30 students.The technique of sampling is using purposive sampling. The collecting data in this research by using test. The technique of analysis data used to analyze the data in this research is descriptive statistics and inferential statistics using t-tes. Based on the result of the test, students show the score - average pre-test 60,1 and post-test 77,9. Based on the results of analysis level significance in d.b. 5% is 29 value table is 1,699 and value of t-test is 22,598. It can be concluded as follow: t-test > t-table so, hyphotesis is accepted. So, “There is significant difference of students’ vocabulary skill before and after being taught using Scrabble Game as a technique in teaching and learning process at XI Social 1 of SMAN 2 Nganjuk in the academic year of 2021/2022.” The use of Scrabble Game as media to improve students’ vocabulary skill is also able to make students interested and motivated in learning process. The activity can make them more interested. So, the use of Scrabble Game as media is suitable to be aplied to improve students’ vocabulary skill.
