Abstract
Reading is one of the most important language skills. Through reading activities students can improve language, communication skills, increase vocabulary and increase knowledge. Reading is very important in advancing every human personality and nation. Based on the results of a preliminary study conducted on students of class XI MIPA 6 SMA 3 Nganjuk, the problems in reading class are: students have very low vocabulary, students are not interested in reading especially those who use English, most of them are bored with monotony. In the way of teaching, students expect something different in reading lessons that can increase their motivation in reading. So, to achieve the target of the learning process, there must be an effective learning strategy that can overcome all of the problems above. This study discusses the application of the use of the Metagate Comic Book media to solve this problem. Metagate comic book is a medium that will be used by researchers to improve students' reading comprehension in English. The formulation of the problem in this study is "How is the reading comprehension score of students before being taught using metagate comic books in students' reading skills?, 2) How is the reading comprehension score of students after being taught using metagate comic books in students' reading skills?, 3) Is there a significant difference in reading comprehension of students who are taught before and after being taught using metagate comic books in students' reading skills?." The purpose of this research problem is to determine the significant difference in reading comprehension of students who are taught before and after being taught using metagate comic books in narrative texts. class XI MIPA 6 SMAN 3 Nganjuk. The method used is Pre-Experimental research design. The research subjects were students of class XI MIPA 6 SMAN 3 Nganjuk. The research instrument is a test sheet. The research procedure includes Pretest, Treatment, and Posttest. The criteria for success are determined by the activeness of students in participating in lessons and being able to answer the questions given. The results of using metagate comic book media show that this strategy is effective in solving reading comprehension problems. This research got 2 value results. Result 1 is the pretest, the results of this study indicate that the average score of students before being taught using comic books on students' reading comprehension is (47.92). Result 2 is posttest, the average score of students after being taught using metagate comic books on students' reading comprehension is (76,12). With these results, the use of metagate comic book media is an effective strategy used to solve problems in reading class.
