Abstract

The objectives of the research is to found out effect of movie subtitle in creasing students undersatanding on the plot at the eighth grade of SMPN 3 Bagor in the academic year of 2018/2019. The methodology of the research was without subtitle and with subtitle. The place used in this study is the SMPN 3 Bagor in the academic year of 2018/2019. The population of the research ,moreover, was 71 students from the total of three classes. The sample was obtained by using purposive sampling technique resulting in one class with 24 students class. The instrument used in this research wast an assignment in the form test. The technique used collecting data was quantitative data with t-test. The research, furthermore, was conducted by following the procedure: giving subtitle and without subtitle. The data of the tests were then calculated by using t-test. It could be seen from the result of calculation that the students’ scores of with subtitle is higher than of without subtitle. The mean scores of with subtitle was 71,66. Meanwhile, the mean score of without subtitle 52,08. Fuethermore, based on the statistical calculation with the significant level of 5% and It means that to 12,78 is higher than ttablethat was 2,06866. Therefore, it proved the alternative hypothesis, which state that there was significant different between the students’ score in understanding on the plot of movie that without subtitle and with subtitle at the eighth grade of SMPN 3 Bagor in the academic year of 2018/2019.
