Abstract

The purpose of the research is (1) to find out the result of students’ reading skill before taught using THIEVES Strategy, (2) to find out the result of students’ reading skill after being taught using THIEVES Strategy, (3) to find out the effectiveness of THIEVES Strategy in Reading Comprehension at Tenth Grade Students of SMA Negeri 2 Nganjuk in Academic Year of 2019/2020. The research methodology is pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test. The research was done in SMA Negeri 2 Nganjuk in academic year of 2019/2020, the population of the whole class X consist of 356 students, while the sample used by the research is X-MIPA 3 that consist of 36 students. The technique of sampling is using purposive sampling. The collecting data used pre-test and post-test. The class of X-MIPA 3 as the pre-experimental class and the technique of data analysis used to analyze the data in this research is statistical analysis data ttest. Based on the results of the test, students show the pre-test average score 72,083 and post-test 80,694. The final score catagory is good. Based on the result of analysis level significance d.b 5% is 36 by value table is 1,690 and the value of ttest is 9,76. It can be concluded as follow: ttest > ttable, so Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. So that there is effectiveness THIEVES Strategy and after being taught using THIEVES Strategy at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 2 Nganjuk in academic year of 2019/2020.
