Abstract

The aim of this study was (1) to describe the student’s speaking ability before being taught by Pair Work Strategy, (2) to describe the students speaking ability after being taught by using Pair Work Strategy, (3) to know whether there is significant difference between students speaking ability before and after being taught by using Pair Work Strategy and (4) to know whether Pair Work Strategy to teach speaking for tenth grade students at SMK Islam Baburrohmah effective. Quantitative experimental was used as the design of this research. The researcher used this design because he did experiment by using presentation Pair Work Strategy then got the student’s score from pre test and post test. The subject of this research was the X-TB class at SMK Islam Baburrohmah Mojosari. The researcher took one class which was taught by using Pair Work Strategy To get the data, the researcher used test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used statistical t-test. The result of research found that (1) value of the student’s speaking ability before being taught by using Pair Work Strategy was in fair category with the mean 43.2, (2) the students speaking ability after being taught by using Pair Work Strategy was in enough category with the mean 66.4, (3) the result of t-test value is 11.19 while t-table with degree of freedom (df) 14 at 5 % significant level is 1761. It can be seen that t-statistic value is higher than t-table because there is significant increase in students’ speaking ability after doing treatment, and (4) it can be said that Pair Work Strategy to teach speaking is really effective for the students’ speaking ability at SMK Islam Baburrahmah in academic year 2020/2021. So the alternative hypothesis was accepted.
